Watching My Sister Grow Up

My sister is about 9 years younger than me, and so when I was in 3rd grade she was just born. I remember being so proud of her that I begged my Mom to bring her in for show-and-tell.

Because my sister and I are so far apart in age, I can't say we've ever really got along. She was always that pesky little sister who destroyed everything I ever owned and tried to follow me around every place I went. I always had a tender spot for her, but that soft spot was equally matched with utter annoyance.

My sister is nearing 16 years old and I'm still young enough to remember what it was like to be her age. Although we're totally different, and I do mean totally (we look different, we act different, we have much different tastes when it comes to movies and music, we have different hobbies, etc.), we are really nearing that point in our lives where we are able to truly enjoy each other's company. It's great to be able to talk to her about issues she may have with school, boys, and parents, and feel like she can actually understand where I'm coming from and take my advice to heart.

It's great that while she's growing-up, our relationship is growing, too.

I love you, Sister. I've enjoyed having you here for the past few weeks and will really miss you when you go back to Mom's.
