Want an Mp3 Player - Need Advice

I want an mp3 player, and I need advice on which to buy. There's so many brands and kinds now, it's kind of hard to choose.

I'd like something with a lot of storage (20gb), but one of my friends has advised me against this since I will be using it while biking and walking. I guess the hard drive types aren't not so good when used while exercising? Is this the case?

I've looked into getting a Nano, but it seems almost TOO small for me. I'm scared I'll break it! Also, it only goes up to 4gb - that may be fine for me, but what can be wrong with more space?

Any help is appreciated.

Just hum while you walk.

I have the 10gb ipod that I bought in the summer of 2003. I work out with it 4 days a week which includes running for 30 minutes. I haven't had any problems with it. It is the size of the bigger ipod and that is fine with me.

I've owned both Ipod and non ipod (Iriver and Sony) definately go with an Ipod. Now if you want a worker outer one (aka one you can work out with) I'd sugest a shuffle, the 1 gig one, but if you want more storage I'd get the new nano.

I would go with the nano, 4gigs is alot of storage and more than you'll probally need, I have a mini that holds 4 gigs and it take me forever just to find songs on that, I couldn't imagine indexing thru 20gigs. Plus the nano is quite a bit cheaper.

Thanks for the feedback, all.

I don't really want a Shuffle, as I want to be able to select the songs I wanna listen to, although it probably would be the most ideal for working out.

I can get the 20gb Color for the same price as the 4 gb Nano, so money really isn't an issue as far as those two mp3 players go.

Hmm, decisions, decisions! Thanks again for the help.

if your worried about breaking the nano take a look at the link above, pretty sturdy it seems probally more so then the larger iPods

I have the 20GB iPod and have to send it back to Apple for service. Apparently a slight drop caused it to go into a shock that I can't get it to recover from. If you're thinking of doing any kind of excercise activity, I'd recommend getting the Nano. The hard drive ones are great (I had mine at least half full), but are definitely more fragile.

Dang! Thanks for the info., you guys.

I think I probably will settle on the Nano, then. I went to Best Buy to check them out, but of course they didn't have the 4 gb one, so I'll just wait, I guess. I must admit, I am kind of attracted to the 20 gb because of more storage capacity, but I don't want it to get busted up when I do exercise, or even just with taking it to school, etc.

sure 20 gigs is alot of storage but iPods are certainly not trustworthy storage devices so chances are you're going to wanna back up your collection on your computer anyway. In that case 4gigs will give you about 1000+ songs or 3 days worth of music, how long exactly do you plan to work out?

100 days in a row!

No, seriously, though. I just like to have a VERY wide selection of music without having to fiddle with it everytime I want to work out. I suppose 4gb is realistic for that, though.

I got a Nano this weekend (actually, it was a gift from my grandmother) and I like it so far! Thanks for all the help, guys.
