More Roommate Blues
I have been so edgy this past week, or couple of weeks. Partly due to my relations with my roommates. I get so annoyed with stuff that they do or don't do. Here's an example:
Our air-conditioning is broken. It broke yesterday afternoon. When I mentioned this to the people that were at home, they were basically like, "big deal, we'll get it fixed tomorrow." It really kind of freaked me out because it was already 80 degrees in there and climbing. I can't stand being really hot, and I know that one of our other roommates has a hard time sleeping if she's overly hot. Then, last night, after they realized that, no, it was not going to cool off as the night wore on, one of them decided to complain about it, and everything else he could think of. He got so ill and grumpy that whenever I asked him anything, he would get defensive and annoying.
Of course, I'm always the silently elected official to take care of crap like this. So, if I'm going to take care of it, I will take care of it when I feel like it is best. I think it is probably best to get it taken care of first thing this morning because we have absolutely no idea what is wrong with it, and it could take quite a while to fix. They might have to go buy parts, or at worst, a new unit, and how long will all of this take? Maybe someone else's air conditioning is busted and they have a long list of things they have to complete before they can get to our problem - and I imagine that list growing by the hour.
So, I call the apartment this morning - no answer. I call one roommate's cell phone, and he answers sleepily. He gets very grouchy when I tell him we need to get this fixed as soon as possible and that he needs to take care of some things before the maintenance man gets there. He says he'll do it when he wakes up. When will he wake-up? Oh, he doesn't know, probably around noon. Noon? 2 hours from now?
I'm just disgruntled. One roommate constantly bitches at me for not washing the dishes, etc., but the truth is, I used to wash the dishes all the time. Until I noticed there were certain household members that created mounds of dishes but never washed any. So, I stopped doing it. I'm not a maid and I normally drink out of cans, plastic cups, and eat off of disposable plates. So, the dishes pile up, and one roommate does them. No, it's not fair, and I can understand where he's coming from, but don't bitch at me for not doing the dishes when they're not mostly my dishes and there are people in the house who don't get bitched at and who never do them.
God, so annoying. And everyone wonders why I stay in my room most of the time.
